The pool is nicely positioned in a sun trap, and only 4 mtrs away from our gated kitchen terrace, so getting that well earnt cool drink and sandwich is close at hand, and, any time you feel like a bbq, say no more, just have one by the pool, perfect, pool one side and stunning views, which go on for miles, the other. Shade, when you need it, is either the under the sun parasols or under the well positioned olive trees that give you that glorious escape from the sun with stunning views to accompany it. Saklikent Gorge is a 20km-long canyon that is a 50 minute drive east of Fethiye. It is a lovely place to come and while away your time, and for those with a more active frame of mind, it's an excellent place to indulge in outdoor pursuits including canoeing,hiking or rafting. You can easily get to Saklikent Gorge by car or local dolmus. Restaurants,decked out with Turkish rugs,comfy cushions and shaded by fig trees,serve freshly caught trout for lunch or supper with beer, soft drinks or melon, cooled by the ice-cold waters off the mountains. Have a paddle in the waters and see how long you can stand in it with the ice cold water around your feet. There are also pleasant walking trails through the mountains on either side of the gorge and tree houses that offer an unusual place to rest your weary feet. From Villa Falcon,a drive of 20 minutes passing Saklikent Gorge and then driving on for another 40 minutes,passing through many traditional Turkish villages, is Patara Beach. Patara beach with its sand stretching for miles,mountains along its length and the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, is a beach well worth a visit for the day, it is also a national park and home to many birds, as well as the breeding ground for the endangered Loggerhead turtle. The beach was once the celebrated harbour of Patara, it now has a very relaxing area where you can have a meal and a drink in the beach bar and for afters swing away your time in a hammock or relax on their comfy cushions |
